CCST

California Native American tribes, encompassing both federally recognized and unrecognized groups, across the entire state of California.

We are pleased to formally introduce the Coalition of California State Tribes (CCST), a 501(c) 4 non-profit corporation established in May of 2022. That year, thirty (30) California Native American tribes, represented by fifty (50) of their elected leaders and representatives, gathered in Los Angeles County under a shared mission: to amplify the needs of California Native American tribes, both federally recognized and unrecognized, throughout the state of California.

As a coalition of representatives from various California Native American tribes, the CCST is pivotal in identifying state-related issues that may impact all tribes. The CCST serves as an essential conduit for expressing concerns and advocacy on behalf of its member tribes, recognizing the distinct and diverse interests of each sovereign nation within California, and addressing matters that may affect their governance, rights, and well-being. Thus, CCST plays a key role in advancing the goals of Executive Orders B-10-11 and N-15-19, which “bears witness to, records, examines existing documentation of, and receives California Native American narratives regarding the historical relationship between the State of California and California Native Americans to clarify the historical record of such relationship in the spirit of truth and healing.”
